Oxford, MS sees rise in home burglaries during holidays

OXFORD, MS (WMC-TV) - Home burglaries are on the rise this holiday season in Oxford, Mississippi.

"We have Christmas presents and they know we have all the goodies available," said Oxford resident Nan Davis.

Davis noticed a spike in break-ins during the holiday season last year.

"There was a rash of break-ins that were clustered and more than we've experienced in the past," said Davis.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is installing the chargers at select restaurant locations across Tennessee and is becoming a participant in the EV Project, an initiative to increase adoption of electric vehicles by creating a charging infrastructure.

The EV Project is managed by ECOtality, which is providing the electric chargers to the Cracker Barrel locations.

"Becoming a leader in The EV Project continues our tradition of striving to anticipate and meet our guests´ expectations and, at the same time, allows us to participate in a meaningful way in the nation´s explorations of energy independence," CEO Michael A. Woodhouse said.

A total of 24 chargers will be installed along "The Tennessee Triangle," a 425 mile stretch of highway that connects Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga.

Judge dismisses Tyler Edmonds' lawsuit

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A federal judge in Oxford has dismissed a wrongful imprisonment lawsuit filed by Tyler Edmonds.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers Jr. on Tuesday ruled that law enforcement officers did nothing unconstitutional in the handling of Edmonds' confession in 2003.

Edmonds and his mother, Sharon Clay, sued Oktibbeha County in 2009, saying Edmonds was wrongfully convicted of murder "based on an alleged coerced confession taken by law enforcement officers."

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Highway Patrol say ticket totals for driving under the influence and seatbelt and child restraint violations this Thanksgiving holiday period were less than half what they were last year.

The Clarion-Ledger reports MHP chalked up 67 DUI arrests statewide from 6 p.m. Wednesday to midnight Sunday, down from 154 last year.

Rebels ready for Egg Bowl test
