Miss. National Guard could face cuts in sequestration

SOUTHAVEN, MS- (WMC-TV) - The countdown is on to federal budget cuts with real consequences in the Mid-South. One thing that could be hit hard is the Mississippi National Guard.

In spite of that, there seems to be very little urgency from the White House or congress to avoid them.

As the clock ticks down to possibly billions of dollars slashed from the federal budget, Mississippi's front line of defense will be at the front line of the cuts.

General Augustus Collins with the Mississippi National Guard is paying close attention to the projected cuts known as sequestration. He hopes a deal is reached but plans are being made should the cuts happen.

If cuts are made, the state's national guard force may have to periodically do without some of its workforce.
