Sentencing reset in stolen cigarette operation

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A federal sentencing hearing has been rescheduled in the case of a Florida man convicted in Mississippi for his role in a multistate cigarette smuggling operation.

Mitchell Sivina, of Doral, Fla., pleaded guilty in May in U.S. District Court in Oxford, Miss., to money laundering and transporting stolen cigarettes. Court records show Sivina's sentencing has been delayed from March until April 4 due to a scheduling conflict.

"Waiting for Superman" star to speak in Memphis

Bill Strickland, a nationally known author, CEO and community visionary will speak in Memphis, Saturday March 5th.  Strickland was recently featured in the documentary, "Waiting for Superman".  Strickland went from intercity youth to powerful CEO after a teacher changed his life forever.  He now runs Manchester Bidwell Corporation in Pittsburgh which offers vocational training to displaced and underemployed workers.

How much snow did the Mid-South get?

The Memphis office of the National Weather Service has released its totals for the snow that fell over the Mid-South Wednesday.

Here in Midtown at the WMC TV studios, we picked up about three and a half inches of snow. According the the reports gathered by the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow fell over much of northwestern Mississippi and eastern Arkansas south of I-40. 

It looks like the worst of winter may be over.

Long term forecast models are indicating a change in the pattern that's been in place since December. This will allow for a return to milder temperatures across the area. This doesn't mean that winter is over, but we'll likely not have to deal with successive days excessive cold and storm systems bringing the threat for snow every four to six days.

One thing to keep in mind is that our highest snowfalls on record occurred during the month of March. In the meantime, we'll keep tracking the weather and waiting for spring.
