Special reading will honor writer Barry Hannah

Special reading will honor writer Barry Hannah

On Tuesday, those who admire the work of writer Barry Hannah will get the opportunity to hear a collection of more than 30 essays that celebrate his life.

Contributors include Brad Watson, Dan Williams, Ron Shapiro, Jim Dees, M.O. Walsh and Glennray Tutor. Also, there will be never before seen interviews with Hannah.

The collection of essays is called "A Short Ride : Remembering Barry Hannah."

As a college student, I had the chance to share a drink with Mr. Hannah on a square balcony.  My friends, who all wanted to be writers, shuffled for the chance to sit nearest him. His passing was heartbreaking for many in Oxford and those who admired him as a friend and writer.

I expect it will be a touching reading.

WHEN : Tuesday, December 4, 6 p.m.

WHERE : Off Square Books, Oxford
