Oxford one of best small towns for business | Business
(WMC-TV) - Oxford is one of the best small towns for businesses, according to the American Express Open Forum.
Small business owners have much more freedom to choose where they live than they did previously thanks to the Internet and other advances in communication and technology, according to the site.
So, the authors asked Jack Shultz, the writer behind "Boomtown USA" and an expert on rural development, to pick his top (small) spots for companies.
Here's why Shultz said Oxford made the list:
This small town is known as the literary capital of the south with famous authors such as William Faulkner having lived here. Of course, it hosts the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). The downtown area features a historic town square with an old courthouse surrounded by retail shops and restaurants. Its population has grown 36% in the last 10 years. (Population: 17,636)
And Oxford wasn't the only Mississippi town to make the list. It was joined by Tupelo and Columbus.
