As flooding continues in many communities and others try to assess damage by some of the most devastating weather in history, Kroger is committing $250,000 in cash and in-kind contributions to assist storm and flood relief efforts in areas across Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and other affected areas in the Southeast.
“We hope that by providing food and water to local food banks and financial support to the Red Cross we will help our associates and customers rebuild their communities in the aftermath of the floods and devastating storms,” said Joe Bell, Kroger Delta Marketing & Public Affairs. “Right now so many people would like to get involved and help others. If this is the case the absolute best way to do so is by either making a cash donations to the Red Cross or contacting the local food bank or the Salvation Army for a list of specific items needed.”
The Kroger Delta Division has been concentrating efforts as well around providing requested food items by the food banks. This is so critical because they are the ones that provide food when needed to either the Red Cross or temporary relief shelters.
Kroger has also launched a Red Cross relief effort campaign in the Kroger Delta Division stores. All money collected will be forwarded directly to the American Red Cross to be distributed to local chapters that in return will help those communities in need and provide emergency assistance to the victims of these devastating weather related events.
Of the $250,000 commitment, Kroger is providing $150,000 in both cash and in-kind support, prioritizing food contributions to local food banks to assist residents as demand increases.
In addition, The Kroger Co. Foundation will provide the American Red Cross up to $100,000 in cash to match customer donations collected at the register in Kroger stores. This can be easily done by donating their spare change into the “Coin Boxes” at their grocery register check-out.
Customers that would like to donate to area food banks can add a cash donation to their grocery order. Both are needed.
