Evening of Christmas fun set for Nov. 30

The University of Mississippi Student Programming Board is sponsoring an evening of Christmas fun for the Oxford and Ole Miss communities from 7 to 11 p.m. Wednesday (Nov. 30) in the Ole Miss Student Union.

Featuring treats and holiday activities for all ages, A Grand Ole Christmas is free and open to the public.

“We are excited to host our annual Christmas event again this year,” said Bradley Baker, coordinator of campus programming. “We hope that this event is entertaining for not only Ole Miss students but families in the community as well.”

For Ole Miss students, the event will feature free skating on an ice skating rink in the Student Union Food Court.

It's "Free Food Friday" at Action News 5. We teamed up with the Midtown Lennys and Curbside Casseroles in east Memphis to raise money for the Mid-South Food Bank.

What will your office do to raise money for the Mid-South Food Bank?

On "Free Food Friday",  we ask our staff to join us for a FREE lunch in exhange for a donation to the Mid-South Food Bank.  It's the second year for the fundraiser at Action News 5.  Staffers were treated to turkey, ham, dressing, green breans, pyramid potatoes, salad, pecan pie, apple pie and much more from Curbside Casseroles Lennys provided turkey, ham, tuna and even chicken salad sandwiches with all the fixin's, chips, cookies and drinks.  The food was delicious!

Action News 5 is challenging you to collect food for the Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive.  We are challenging businesses, day cares and even churches to collect food for the hungry in the Mid-South.  100% of the money and food collected will be given to the   Mid-South Food Bank.

Live United when you check-out at Kroger

People will have an opportunity to make a donation to United Way at the checkout register at local Kroger stores soon

Many Kroger stores in the Mid-South area will give shoppers an opportunity to Live United at the checkout with the option to make a one dolar donation to United Way soon.

These donations will help United Way fund a network of nonprofit partners working to improve education, financial stability and health for the Mid-South region. United Way’s network contains nearly 100 nonprofits with over 200 programs reaching people every day.

Out of Darkness Community Walk

Out of Darkness Community Walk

The University of Mississippi is taking a stand against suicide.

The second annual Out of Darkness Community Walk will be held on Saturday, November 5 at the Lyceum Circle on the University of Mississippi campus.

Proceeds will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in an effort to shed light on the issue, as well as, to North Mississippi to aid those affected by suicide.

You can register online by signing up for the Lafayette-Oxford University Walk or register the morning of the walk.

It kicks off with a ceremony at 9 AM , followed by the 1.5 mile walk at 9:30 AM. For more information contact Brandy Bakwaski.

United Way campaign seeing great results

United Way of the Mid-South held its second countdown meeting yesterday to review fundraising successes and learn more about some of the companies participating in this year’s campaign drive.

John Crowe, president and CEO of Buckeye Technologies and this year’s General Campaign Chairman, led the meeting and reviewed the reports.

“This was a great week,” he announced. “This is only our second countdown, and hopefully we can keep the results moving forward.”
