Man gets 1 day in jail, fine in bank fraud scheme

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A former Oxford auto dealer will spend one day in jail and pay $7,500 fine for a guilty plea to a $2 million bank fraud scheme.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports Dino Jerry Grisanti was sentenced Thursday by Chief U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills.

Last October, Grisanti pleaded guilty to a one-count federal charge that he concealed the sale of about 66 vehicles and failed to pay Regions Bank $2 million as part of a floor plan financing agreement.

Appeal planned in Lafayette County death sentence

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Attorneys say they will appeal a death sentence that a jury handed down this past week for 29-year-old Caleb Corrothers.

Corrothers was sentenced to death Friday, a day after being convicted on two counts of capital murder for the July 2009 shooting deaths of Frank Clark, and his son, Taylor.

Corrothers also was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for wounding Tonya Clark, the wife and mother of the other victims.

Man convicted in father and son slayings

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - A Lafayette County jury has convicted Caleb Carrothers in the deaths of a father and son.

The jury Thursday convicted Carrothers on two counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault for the 2009 shooting and killing of Frank Clark and his son, Taylor Clark, at their home. Carrothers also was convicted for shooting and wounding Tonya Clark, the wife and mother of the slain men.

The sentencing hearing was being held Friday in circuit court in Oxford.

Jury selection scheduled for double murder trial

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Jury selection was scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of a man charged in the deaths of a father and son in Lafayette County.

The Oxford Eagle reports the members of the jury will be selected from Lee County. The trial is being held in Oxford.

Trial date moved for SDRHA's Jefferson

GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The trial of the director of a housing organization on charges of intimidating witnesses in a federal investigation has been rescheduled to Aug. 29 in federal court in Oxford.

The Delta Democrat Times reports the trial for South Delta Regional Housing Authority Director Ann Jefferson was rescheduled from May 23 at the request of her attorney.

Jefferson has pleaded not guilty.
