NAACP files suit over Mississippi redistricting

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi Senate has rejected a House redistricting plan - an action that has drawn a lawsuit and possibly set the stage for federal intervention in the state's election process.

The Senate voted Thursday to seek negotiations with the House on drawing new maps for both chambers. That vote came despite Democratic House Speaker Billy McCoy's decision not to negotiate on the matter.

Mississippi moves to ban bath salts

Mississippi is moving closer to outlawing bath salts and other products containing toxic chemicals that some people are using to get high.

A ban passed the Senate Friday and moves to the House for more work.

The bill would ban mephedrone and M-D-P-V.

Officials say the chemicals are sold under such names as Ivory Wave, Bliss, White Lightning, Hurricane Charlie.

Authorities say the chemicals can cause hallucinations, paranoia and suicidal thoughts.
